The African Water Facility (AWF) is the only African project preparation facility entirely focused on water and sanitation. Established as a special fund hosted and managed by the African Development Bank in 2004 at the request of African Ministers’ Council of Water (AMCOW), the AWF provides grants and technical assistance to support the preparation and implementation of water infrastructure projects and water management measures throughout Africa, thereby contributing to attainment of the Africa Water Vision 2025 and water-related Sustainable Development Goals.
USAID’s $3 million program contribution to support this broader program by the AWF will help fund the strategic priorities outlined in their Revised Resource Mobilization and Action Plan, including:
The program contribution will also provide USAID with the opportunity to help guide the direction of the fund together with AMCOW and other donors as a member of the AWF Governing Council.
